Earlier I shared strawberry blended baked oats and peanut oatmeal bars recipes for breakfast and both had banana in it . I got many DMs where readers asked for banana substitute or no banana oats recipe. So this time I have come up with this simple recipe using apple sauce.
Baked Oatmeal Ingredients:
Oats: I have used rolled oats or old-fashioned oats in this air fryer oatmeal recipe. You can also use quick oats but might not get the same texture. If you are looking for more ways of using oats, then do checkout recipe like- eggless oats pancakes, mango overnight oats, peanut oats energy bites.
Milk: Regular milk or plant based milk like almond milk, soy milk or oat milk can be used.
Sweetener: Use honey or its vegan substitute maple syrup as sweetener in these oatmeal cups. You can even use brown sugar, coconut sugar or monk fruit sweetener.
Aromatics: For flavour and aroma, I have added cinnamon and vanilla extract. Instead of cinnamon powder, you can even use apple pie spice (blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice).
Apple Sauce: It works as a great egg substitute and makes the baked oatmeal soft and moist. I have used Barkers smooth apple sauce which has 82% apples.
As it was already mildly sweet, I did not have to add more sweetener from my side. If you are using unsweetened apple sauce then, please increase the amount of sweetener as per your taste.
Fruits & Nuts: To make these baked oats even more delicious, I have added chopped apples and fresh blueberries. You can even add dried or frozen berries like strawberries, cranberries, raisins, apricots, chopped almonds, walnuts, pecans etc.
Optional: Other ingredients that you can include are- coconut flakes, chocolate chips, sprinkles, mixed seeds like flaxseeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds etc.
Oatmeal cups vs Oatmeal muffins: You can enjoy these baked oats straight from ramekins or demould them and serve as oatmeal cups. Instead of ramekins, you can use silicon muffin liners also. The difference between these cups and oats muffins is the latter has flour whereas oatmeal cups have no flour.

Ingredients:
- Rolled Oats- 2 cups
- Milk / Plant based milk- 1 cup
- Apple Sauce- 3/4 cup
- Honey / Maple Syrup- 4 tbsp
- Vanilla Extract- 1/2 tsp
- Cinnamon powder- 1/2 tsp
- Baking Powder- 1/2 tsp
- Salt- A pinch
- Chopped Apples- 1/2 cup
- Blueberries (fresh / frozen)- 1/2 cup
- Chopped Almonds/Walnuts- 8 to 10
Notes:
- Measuring cup used: 1 cup = 250 ml
- The above recipe yields 6 servings.
- The apple sauce I have used is mildly sweet (82% apples). If you are using unsweetened apple sauce, increase the amount of honey or maple syrup.
Directions:
Step 1:
In a large mixing bowl, mix together milk, apple sauce, honey / maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon using a whisker.
Step 2:
Add rolled oats, baking powder, salt and mix well with a spoon or spatula. (In the meantime, set the air fryer for preheating at 160°C (320°F) for 5 minutes)
Step 3:
Add all the chopped apples, nuts and berries in the oats mixture and fold gently once again.
Step 4:
Brush or spray 6 oz (180 ml) ramekins with oil (6 ramekins were used). Transfer the oatmeal mixture in them using a spoon. Top with more blueberries or nuts if you like.
Step 5:
Place the filled ramekins in preheated air fryer basket. Air fry at 160°C (320°F) for 13-15 minutes.
Check the centre with a skewer after 13 minutes. If its tip has wet batter, air fry for more time else they are done. Drizzle some honey or peanut butter and enjoy these baked oats hot or warm.
FAQ:
How to store and reheat oatmeal cups?
You can also let them cool completely and de-mold (run a sharp knife along the edges to demould). Store them in an airtight container or resealable bag in fridge for 2 to 3 days. They can be enjoyed straight out of fridge (I love to have them this way as breakfast in summers) or warm them in microwave for 30-40 seconds.
Can I freeze baked oats?
Yes, after de-moulding transfer them in an airtight freezer safe bag. They can easily be kept frozen for upto 15 days. To reheat them, bring them out of bag and microwave for 1 minute.
