Soft, fluffy, tasty air fryer donut holes are so easy to make & perfect for quick dessert or snack. They are made with simple ingredients like flour, banana, sugar, cinnamon & take less than 15 minutes.
These eggless, no-yeast air fried banana donut holes are latest favourite at my home. We love donuts but often avoid them as they are deep fried. With this air fryer recipe, it is absolutely hassle free to make them any time and can be enjoyed guilt free.
If you don’t count sugar & cinnamon, you practically need just 2 ingredient – flour & bananas to whip up this dessert. These air fryer donut holes are:
- Vegan
- Yeast-free
- Vegetarian (egg free)
- Easy & quick dessert or snack
- Takes less than 15 minutes from start to finish
Donut Holes Ingredients:
Banana: Use ripe bananas to make this dessert as they are naturally more sweeter. Also when whisked properly, they work wonderfully as egg replacer too.
Flour: I have used all purpose flour (plain flour) to make donut holes. If you want to use whole wheat flour, I would suggest using half wheat flour & half plain flour as otherwise their texture can turn out dense. Instead of plain flour, self raising flour can also be used.
Baking Powder: It works as leavening agent making the dough rise while baking / air frying and gives the donut holes light fluffy texture from inside. If you are using self raising flour, please skip adding baking powder as it already has leavening agents added to it.
Sugar: Use fine sugar, brown sugar or castor sugar here. Apart from rolling the donut holes in mixture of sugar & cinnamon, I like to add some of it in dough also as otherwise they can taste bland from inside.
Cinnamon: It adds a lovely warm aroma & flavour to donut holes. Use good quality cinnamon powder. You can even add some vanilla extract, nutmeg powder or ‘pumpkin spice’ to flavour these donut holes.
Oil / Butter: Any kind of fat like olive oil, coconut oil or butter helps in giving golden colour to the donuts from outside. I prefer to use melted butter here but if you wish you can use any cooking oil of your choice too.
Variations:
You can create your own variation of these donut holes by adding chocolate chips, sprinkles, chopped nuts, berries, rainbow sprinkles, orange / lemon zest or desiccated coconut to the dough mixture.
They can also be drizzled with peanut butter, melted chocolate, caramel, icing glaze, dulce-de-leche or served with ice cream scoop for an indulgent dessert.

Ingredients: (For 6 pieces)
- Mashed Banana (ripe)- 1/3 cup
- All purpose flour / Self raising flour- 1/2 cup
- Baking Powder*- 1/2 tsp
- Cinnamon (powdered)- 1/2 tsp
- Fine Sugar / Castor sugar- 3 tbsp
- Melted Butter / Oil- 2 tbsp (for brushing)
- Salt- A pinch (optional)
(If you are using self raising flour, skip adding baking powder)
Directions:
Step 1: Mash the bananas with fork or whisker. Whisk them well. (You may need 1 medium or 2 small bananas. Measure and use 1/3 cup mashed bananas only). Keep aside.
Step 2: Place a mesh sifter over the same bowl and add flour, baking powder, pinch of salt, pinch of cinnamon and 2 tsp sugar (to taste). Tap the sides of sifter to add flour to mashed bananas.
Step 3: Mix well with a spatula to make a shaggy dough. It should be slightly sticky but if it seems to be too sticky (not able to hold shape) add 2-3 tsp flour gradually while mixing. Keep aside.
Step 4: In a bowl, mix cinnamon powder and sugar. We will use it later to coat donut holes.
Step 5: Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (360°F) for 3-4 minutes. Once it is preheated, line with parchment paper and brush oil on it. Apply some oil on your palms and a spoon. Scoop a portion of donut mixture using a spoon and roll it between your palm to give a rough round shape. Place it on parchment paper. Repeat the process and make remaining balls.
Maintain space between donut holes as they expand during baking. The above quantity yields total 6-7 pieces. Brush them with melted butter or oil.
Step 6: Air fry at 180°C (360°F) for 6 to 7 minutes till they are golden brown from outside.
Step 7: Brush melted butter or oil on the donut holes while they are still hot and immediately transfer them in cinnamon sugar bowl. Toss gently to coat from all sides. Enjoy them warm as dessert or snack with coffee.
Tips:
- To check whether donut holes are ready or not, pierce one of them with a skewer after 6 minutes. If the tip comes out clean they are ready else air fry for 1-2 minutes more.
- Avoid adding too much flour in the dough as it can cause the donut holes to be dense.
- The air frying time can vary depending on the size of donut holes. If you are keeping their size large they may take longer to cook.
- For making more pieces, double the recipe but make in batches. Always arrange them in single layer in air fryer basket while leaving space between them.
- Storage & Reheating: Though the donut holes taste best when warm straight out of air fryer but in case there are any leftovers, please store them in an airtight container in fridge. Reheat them in microwave or air fryer.
