Last time at this time of season I had tried making cookies in my air fryer and since then my air fryer baking spree has almost never stopped. I have already shared recipes for air fryer banana muffins, chocolate cake, banana bread and no knead bread which were loved by so many of you. I hope you will also love this recipe for chewy fudgy air fryer chocolate brownies.
Air fryer Chocolate Brownie Ingredients:
Flour- I have used all purpose flour or plain flour to make these brownies. You can use all wheat flour also but increase the quantity of milk by 1-2 tbsp if required as whole wheat flour absorbs more liquid.
Cocoa Powder- Use good quantity, unsweetened cocoa powder for making these chocolate brownies. I have used Hershey’s cocoa powder.
Chocolate- I love to use dark chocolate for making brownies. Always use good quality chocolate which has cocoa butter in ingredients for maximum taste and richness. Instead of chocolate bar you can use chocolate chips also (just weigh them correctly).
Salt- A pinch of salt is added to brownies as it enhances the chocolate taste and accentuates its sweetness.
Butter- Instead of oil, I like to use butter in brownies for rich creamy texture. It is better to use unsalted butter for baking as sometimes certain brands of salted butter have too salt in them turned the baked goods salty.
Milk- You can use whole milk or any plant based milk like soy or almond milk.
Sugar- Use white granulated sugar or brown granulated sugar as sweetener in these brownies.
Instant Coffee (optional): One or half tsp of coffee in brownies add depth to the chocolate flavour. If you love coffee then do add it else the ingredient is totally optional.
Nuts: Some chopped walnuts or peacans add crunch to the brownies. You can add them in brownie batter or sprinkle them on top before baking.
Can you make brownies in air fryer?
Yes, definitely!! By my personal experience so far, most recipes that can be baked in oven can be baked in air fryer too. From cookies, cakes, breads, everything turned out fine in air fryer.
Before baking find a suitable size pan which fits in the air fryer basket. The pan should be smaller than air fryer basket so that there is space left for air circulation (as can be seen in below image also). The only downside here is the size of air fryer. If your air fryer is L or XL in size, you can bake larger quantities in it else it is suitable for only small batch baking.

- Air fryer Cookies (3 ingredients)
Ingredients:
- All purpose flour / Plain flour- 1 cup (120 gms)
- Cocoa Powder- 1 + 1/2 tbsp
- Salt- A pinch
- Milk- 1/3 cup (80 gms)
- Granulated White Sugar-1/2 cup (112 gms)
- Butter (unsalted)- 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp (67 gms)
- Chopped Chocolate- 120 gms
- Vanilla Extract-1/2 tsp
(Measuring Cup used : 1 cup = 250 gms)
Directions:
Step 1:
Transfer milk in a sauce pan and heat on medium low heat. Add sugar to it and mix till it dissolves completely. If you want to add instant coffee, add it at this step. (Don’t boil the milk, we just want to heat it).
Step 2:
Once the sugar dissolves completely, switch off the flame. Add chopped chocolate and butter to the same pan. After 10-15 seconds, mix with spatula or spoon to melt the chocolate & butter completely. Transfer the contents of this pan in a large mixing bowl and Keep aside.
Step 3:
Sieve flour, cocoa powder and salt together in a bowl. Keep these dry ingredients aside. Set the air fryer for preheating at 160°C (320°F) for 3 to 4 minutes. Prep the baking tin by lining it with parchment paper and brush oil on it.
Step 4:
Transfer the chocolate-milk mixture in a bowl and & add these sieved dry ingredients to it. Mix with a spatula (cut & fold method) to get evenly mixed batter (while mixing add vanilla extract also).
Step 5:
Pour the brownie batter inside lined baking tin and level with a spatula. If you want to add some chopped walnuts on top, you can add them now.
Step 6:
Air fry at 160°C (320°F) temperature for 14-15 minutes. Check with a skewer or knife. There should not be wet batter (although some moist crumbs are fine). As each air fryer model works differently, the air frying time can vary slightly so check once after 14 minutes.
Step 7:
Bring the brownie tin outside the air fryer basket and let it cool down. Holding the parchment paper from sides and lift the brownies carefully. Let them cool down completely before cutting.
You can cut it to get 4 square brownies or cut each one of it further in half to get 8 small portions. Enjoy it as it is or with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
Tips / Notes:
1. I have used (5″x 5″ inches) square aluminium cake tin for making these brownies (the maximum size that can fit in my air fryer). If you are using larger tin size for the same recipe as above, then it will take lesser air frying time.
2. Use a sharp knife to cut brownies. To get cleaner cuts, chill the brownies in fridge in airtight container before cutting.
3. Line the baking tin such that there is an extra parchment paper on sides. Using these extra edges, you can easily lift off the brownies from the tin. Also, always brush some oil on parchment paper to avoid brownies from sticking to it.
4. Never over-mix the brownie batter as this way you will incorporate more air into it causing change of texture.
How to store air fried brownies?
You can easily store these brownies in an airtight container in fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat or warm them, microwave for 10 to 15 seconds.
