Air fried Sweet Potato Ingredients:
Sweet Potatoes: There are many varieties of sweet potatoes in market but the ones with orange coloured flesh tastes best after roasting. They turn out absolutely tender, tasty with perfectly crispy golden edges on roasting.
Oil: Use any cooking oil of your choice like avocado, canola or olive oil. For richer taste, feel free to use melted butter.
Seasoning: I like to keep the seasoning simple with salt, black pepper and garlic powder. You can also add other spices like onion powder, paprika powder, cumin powder or red chilli powder as per your liking.
Apart from this, you can even toss these cubed sweet potatoes in oil, maple syrup / honey, cinnamon powder and pinch of salt to make yummy honey roasted sweet potatoes.
Air frying Time and Temp:
The sweet potatoes should be roasted on high temperature of 200°C (400°F) for crispy exterior and warm soft interiors. The air frying time for sweet potato depends on the size of sweet potato cubes.
The bigger chunks will take longer to cook than sliced or diced sweet potatoes. Also, you can increase the time slightly depending on how crispy you want them to be.
Serving Ideas:
The delicious sweet potato cubes can be enjoyed as quick healthy snack, side dish with everyday meals or you can add them in salads, buddha bowls, tacos or enchiladas.
It is a good idea to include sweet potatoes in everyday diet as they contain antioxidants (‘beta carotene’), fibre, potassium and vitamins. Hope you will try and like like this quick, simple to make air fryer sweet potato recipe.

Ingredients:
- Sweet Potatoes- 1 pound (~500 gms)
- Olive Oil- 1 tbsp
- Black Pepper (crushed)-1/8 tsp
- Garlic Powder- 1/4 tsp
- Salt- 1/4 tsp (to taste)
(Other seasoning ideas- onion powder, paprika, cumin powder, honey & cinnamon.)
Directions:
Step 1:
Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into half horizontally using a sharp knife.
Step 2:
Place one of the halves vertically on chopping board and cut it in roughly 1/2″inch thick slices. Now place one of the slices flat horizontally on chopping board and cut it into 1/2″ inch thick cubes as shown in image. This way chop remaining sweet potato halves too.
(While you move to next step, set the air fryer for preheating at 200°C (400°F) for 2 to 3 minutes.)
Step 3:
Mix oil, black pepper, salt and garlic powder in a big bowl (This way all pieces get equally coated with seasoning). Toss the cubed sweet potatoes in this bowl and mix well using spatula.
Step 4:
Once the air fryer is preheated, brush some oil on air fryer basket. Transfer the sweet potatoes in it and air fry for 200°C (400°F) for 10 to 12 minutes. Shake the basket after halftime. In my air fryer they were done in 10 minutes. For extra crispy texture you can air fry for 1-2 minutes more as per your liking.
Note: The air frying time can vary from little bit depending on the air fryer model and size of sweet potato chunks. If you are cutting them in bigger pieces, they will take 2-3 minutes extra. Check for tenderness after 10 minutes with fork and adjust time accordingly.
Transfer them into a serving bowl. If you wish, you can sprinkle lemon juice or paprika over them. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
FAQ:
How to store & reheat leftovers?
You can store leftover sweet potatoes in an airtight container in fridge for 2 to 3 days. Don’t leave them open in fridge as they will become dry. To reheat, air fry at 200°C or microwave for 1 to 2 minutes.
Can I bake these sweet potato cubes in oven?
Yes, these can be baked in oven also. Preheat the oven at 425°F (220°C). Brush some oil on baking tray and spread the diced sweet potatoes on it (after mixing with oil & seasoning). Bake at 425°F for 25 to 30 minutes till fork tender. Flip the pieces after halftime for even roasting.
Additional Tips:
- While chopping the sweet potatoes, try to cut all pieces in same size for similar cooking time.
- Some overlapping is fine but try to spread the sweet potatoes cubes in single layer as much as possible. If making large quantities, please make in batches.
- Feel free to season these sweet potatoes as per your choice. Once the roasted sweet potatoes are out of air fryer, I sometimes sprinkle some roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder and lemon juice over them for a tangy spicy snack.
