Delectable, flavourful, buttery garlic bread stuffed with gooey melty cheese is perfect as snack or appetiser. It is eggless, vegetarian, easy to make and turns out absolutely irresistible with slight crisp exteriors and soft chewy insides.
I have shaped the garlic bread exactly as you get in dominos stores, semi circle in shape & cut in a way to get pull apart cheesy bread-sticks from it. This makes it easy to share and a perfect crowd pleaser.
With this simple recipe, you can effortlessly prepare ‘dominos’ style cheese stuffed garlic bread anytime at home. Moreover, you will also be able to customise it by adding cheeses, sauces or veggies of your choice in its stuffing.
This stuffed garlic bread is a great option as snack for game day, super bowl party, movie night or as side dish with soups, pasta like tomato soup, mushroom soup or red sauce pasta etc.
My mom has been baking bread for many years now & was asking me to learn it since a long time. I had keenly observed her a few times kneading and shaping the bread dough but never tried it on my own. This lockdown made me & my husband miss the domino’s stuffed garlic bread so much that I finally learnt it this year and since then made it uncountable times.
I tried making it without yeast too (with yoghurt / curd, baking powder etc) but that typical ‘bread aroma’ and flavour was missing from it. The craving for that particular dominos style bread does not get satisfied with no-yeast version. Personally I find this homemade garlic bread to be even better than dominos one as you get to enjoy it fresh straight out of oven.
Garlic Bread Ingredients:
Flour: I have used all purpose flour (maida) to get perfect fluffy and light texture. I would not recommend using whole wheat flour as the bread turns out slightly dense and darker in colour. You can use half maida and half whole wheat but in that case also increase the amount of water used for kneading as whole wheat absorbs more liquid.
Yeast: There are many varieties of yeast available in market- active dry yeast, fresh yeast, instant dry yeast and each of them needs to be used in a specific way. For example, we don’t need to activate ‘fresh yeast’ but ‘active dry yeast’ needs to be hydrated in warm water before using.
I would advice you to always read the labels and instructions on the packaging before buying yeast. Here, I have used Urban Platter Active Dry Yeast to make this garlic bread which I have used innumerable times & totally recommend (not a sponsored post). However if you are not able to find it, look for a same type of yeast in different brand.
Cheese: For stuffing the bread, use any meltable cheese variety like mozzarella, cheddar or any cheese blend. Shred or grate the cheese before using. You can mix the shredded cheese with sliced tangy jalapeños, olives, sweet corn and for additional creaminess, you can add 1-2 tbsp of cheese spread or mayo in the stuffing mixture.
Garlic : This is the main aromatic ingredient of the bread. To enhance the garlic flavour, along with freshly minced garlic clove use garlic powder also.
Butter: It makes the bread softer, richer and so much tastier. I love to add some butter in the dough to enhance the taste of bread.
We also prepare herbed butter by infusing melted butter with garlic, Italian mixed herb seasoning & chilli flakes (for that spicy kick) and then use it to brush the bread. Feel free to add other fresh herbs like scallions, parsley, chives or cilantro.
If you are making this recipe for kids then skip adding chilli flakes. Instead of plain butter you can even use store bought herbed butter but do add fresh grated or minced garlic to it for that extra garlicky flavour.
Milk Powder: It adds a subtly milky sweetness to the bread. However it is an optional ingredients and you can even skip adding it. Instead of milk powder, you can use milk also (replace water with equal amount of milk).
Seasoning: You can use Italian seasoning or mix of fresh / dried herbs like basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder in this recipe. We will add it in the dough and also in melted butter for brushing inside and outside the bread.

Ingredients: (Makes 1 bread)
- All Purpose Flour (Maida)- 1 cup
- Warm Water- 1/3 cup
- Sugar- 1 tsp
- Milk Powder- 2 tsp
- Active Dry Yeast– 1/2 tsp
- Salt- 1/4 tsp
- Melted butter- 1 tsp
- Olive Oil- 2 tsp
- Garlic Cloves (minced)- 2
- Italian (or mixed herb) seasoning- 3/4 tsp
- Mozzarella Cheese (shredded)- 1/2 cup
- For herbed butter:
- Butter (salted)- 1/4 cup
- Garlic Cloves (minced)- 4
- Italian Seasoning- 1 tsp
- Chilli flakes- 1/2 tsp
Directions:
Step 1:
Add warm water, sugar & milk powder in a mixing bowl. Give a gentle stir and add yeast to it. Let it rest for 4-5 minutes till you will notice froth forming on top.
Step 2:
Add flour to the above bowl along with salt. Add minced garlic (or garlic powder), salt, melted butter & italian seasoning in it. Instead of butter you can use olive oil also.
Step 3:
Start kneading the dough. Knead it for at least 10-12 minutes while using you palm to stretch it upwards. If dough feels tight, add 2-3 tsp water more. Add 1 tsp of oil also while kneading to make it completely soft and smooth. Tuck in the dough by stretching its sides. Apply some olive oil inside the bowl and then on the dough. Seal the bowl using cling film.
(Tip: One way to know that the dough is ready is when you will press the dough gently with your finger it will slightly bounce back.)
Step 4:
Rest the dough till it becomes double in volume. In summers this takes roughly 2 hours but in winters it might take even 3-4 hours. Below you can see how the dough has doubled up.
Step 5:
Melt butter in microwave or in a small pan on stovetop. Add minced garlic cloves, Italian seasoning and chilli flakes to it. Mix well and keep this gralic butter aside.
Step 6:
Once the dough is ready lightly punch it. Knead it gently once again. Dust some flour on kitchen counter & start rolling the dough in 8-9 inches diameter circle. You can use rolling pin or use hands to spread the dough. Prepare the baking tray by brushing herbed butter on it. Transfer the dough on that baking tray.
Step 7:
Add shredded cheese to the half part of bread. At this stage, you can even add boiled sweet corn, sliced jalapeño, olives or diced red bell peppers along with cheese. You can use mozzarella, cheddar or any cheese blend.
Step 8:
Fold over the dough into half to turn it into semi circle. Press & pinch the the sides of bread to seal it properly. Using a knife gently make vertical marks on bread. We just have to make marks & not cut through the bread.
Step 9:
Brush some garlic butter (prepared in step 5) on the shaped bread and let it rest for 20-30 minutes for second rise. Cover it with a cling film or kitchen cloth during resting. In the meantime, set the oven for preheating at 180°C for 10-15 minutes.
Step 10:
Remove cling film from top & bake the bread in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15 minutes till it is golden brown. Once out of the oven, brush some more garlic butter on it. (Tip: If you are using OTG and not getting colour on bread, switch on the top rod at 200°C for additional 2 minutes towards the end of baking time.)
Delicious cheesy garlic bread is ready to be served. Cut the bread sticks (along the lines) with a pizza cutter for steam to escape & easy serving.
Enjoy it as snack or appetiser with marinara sauce, tomato sauce, chipotle mayo dip or to sop up soups like roasted tomato soup. Bon Appetit!!
Tips:
- Any leftover bread can easily be stored in fridge in airtight box for 2-3 days. You can reheat it in microwave or for crispy texture use oven or air fryer.
- You can double the recipe to make two garlic breads.
- You can make your own variation by spreading some pizza sauce, basil pesto or sun-dried tomato pesto inside the bread. For making plain garlic bread, skip adding cheese altogether.

I tried this recipe last night and it came out awesome. My family absolutely loved it. I did not have the mozzarelle or cheddar at home so used it with Mexican blend. It was still perfect.I now know that I can make this in big batches for the next get together(whenever that would be).

Divya
Hi, you can take the same quantity.
Suha
Awesome recipe. What can I use instead of oven ? Can I use pressure cooker or air fryer
Or something else .If so how much time should I keep this
Divya
Thank you. I am not sure about pressure cooker but I think it is doable in air fryer. Bake it at slightly lower temp and check after 12-13 minutes. Bake till it turns golden brown from outside.
