Smooth velvety whipped feta with honey is a perfect party dip recipe with its sweet, spicy, tangy and garlicky flavour. It is so simple to make and can be enjoyed with crackers, pita chips, crostini or sourdough toast.
Whether it is games day, movie night, potluck or thanksgiving, this whipped feta and honey dip is an absolute crowd pleaser. It gets ready in 10 minutes and requires just handful of ingredients. It is also:
- Vegetarian
- Gluten free
- Easy & quick to make
- Pairs great with appetisers or snack
If you have ever tried ‘honey chilli potato’ (indo-chinese dish), you can very well imagine how garlic, chilli and honey tastes so good together and irresistible! This dip combines these flavours with tangy, creamy, slightly salty feta and the end result is an absolute flavour bomb.
Feta Dip Ingredients:
Feta: Use good quality feta cheese as it is the her ingredient of the recipe. It is better to use block feta instead of crumbled, as it gives smoother consistency dip. Crumbled feta can render grainy texture but can be used.
Cream Cheese: It compliments taste of feta and gives it velvety rich taste and texture. If you want to cut down calories from the dip, you can opt for low fat cream cheese or greek yogurt.
Honey: I have used regular honey here but you can also use ‘hot honey’ (chilli peppers infused honey).
Lemon Juice: It balances the sweetness of honey while complimenting the tangy salty feta flavour. If you like more lemony flavour, you can also add lemon zest in the dip.
Garlic & Chilli Flakes: Fresh minced garlic & red chilli flakes combined with honey is an absolute flavour bomb. If you have ever tried ‘honey chilli potato’ dish, you can very well imagine how good it tastes.
Olive oil: It is used in sautéing garlic and also used while whipping feta and cream cheese.
Once the dip is ready, you can garnish it with toasted pistachios or walnuts for crunchy texture and nuttiness. Some freshly chopped herbs like parsley, mint or chives add freshness to the dip, so would totally recommend adding it
Variations:
- To take this dip a step further, you can top it up with roasted tomatoes, olives or spiced chickpeas.
- Replace honey with cranberry sauce to make lip smacking whipped feta cranberry dip.
Serving Suggestion:
I personally love this whipped feta dip with homemade whole wheat lavash crackers or herbed crackers. It is also great to serve with appetisers, finger food, wheat thins, warm pita, mini naan, pita chips, naan chips, fresh vegetables, toasted sourdough, crostini or bruschetta.
You can also make it part of charcuterie board or make a ‘whipped feta board‘ with dip in centre accompanied by variety of snacks or munchies. It will be perfect for games day or holiday season.
More dip recipes:
Ingredients:
- Feta block- 8 oz (200 gms)
- Cream cheese (room temp)- 4 oz (100 gms)
- Lemon juice- 3 tsp
- Olive Oil- 3 tsp (divided)
- Garlic cloves (minced)- 3 to 4
- Red Chilli Flakes- 1/2 tsp
- Honey- 1/4 cup
- For garnishing-
- Chopped Pistachios
- Fresh herbs like parsley, chives or mint
Directions:
Step 1:
In a small pan, heat 1 tsp oil. Add minced garlic to it and sauté for 30-40 seconds (keep the flame to medium-low to avoid browning the garlic). Add red chilli flakes and sauté for another 30 seconds. Turn off the flame.
Step 2:
Add honey to sautéed garlic and chilli flakes and mix well. (Note: We want to warm the honey but not bring it to boil). While it is cooling down, let’s move to next step.
Step 3:
In a food processor, add feta block, cream cheese, lemon juice and start whipping. Add remaining olive oil gradually in between. Whip till the mixture becomes smooth and fluffy.
Step 4:
Transfer whipped feta in a bowl. Using back of a spoon, make swirls in the dip and pour honey in these crevices slowly. Garnish with chopped pistachios or fresh herbs like parsley, chives or mint. Enjoy with crackers, pita or naan chips.
How to store leftover dip?
If there is any leftover, transfer it in an airtight container (or cover the dip bowl with a cling film). It can be stored in fridge for upto 3 days. I would not recommend freezing it as texture of cheese and honey changes after freezing and thawing.
